New nomee Social Networking Beta Application Shows Power and Versatility of Adobe Flash Platform

By using Adobe Flash Platform, nomee developers create new, embeddable social networking manager for Windows, Macintosh and Linux

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, April 02, 2009 /Programming PR News/ -- At Web 2.0 Expo San Francisco, nomee will be previewing the beta version of its desktop application, which enables users to take control of the social networking chaos, making it simpler to manage their relationships and their reputations online. Using Adobe AIR , a key part of the Adobe Flash Platform, developers were able to create nomee - a new desktop application that delivers all-in-one organization for more than 100 social networking sites - simultaneously for multiple operating systems, including turning a portion of the desktop application into a browser-compatible environment to support Web 2.0 environments such as Facebook.
nomee is a new kind of desktop tool for Web 2.0 users, acting as an RSS-type monitor for social networking. nomee aggregates all of your contact information and online networking into a single desktop dashboard to foster one-to-one connections and help people effectively manage their relationships and reputation online. nomee also helps users control their online networking, sharing targeted updates to connections via the nomee newsstream , which distributes select information to targeted followers. nomee can embed information from 100-plus social networks - including Twitter, LinkedIn, MySpace, Digg and YouTube - into a single application interface without browser support. In addition, you can add nomee cards to your Facebook profiles so other nomee users can download your contact information and follow you. nomee also uses AIR to support Windows, Macintosh, and Linux users.
"When we first envisioned nomee, we spent months working on a Windows client in C++, and we knew we would then have to spend more time building a Macintosh application," said Mike Nimer, Chief Engineer for nomee. "Once we decided to use Adobe AIR, we had our first functional builds working in a matter of weeks, for both operating systems. And it was simple to build a browser application compatible with Facebook without much additional development time. There's no question that Adobe AIR is a solid runtime platform that is both well-tested and secure."
Nimer cites a number of advantages in standardizing on Adobe AIR to create nomee, including:
- The ability to bring browser-specific data into a desktop environment for faster updates from social networking sites without opening the browser.
- Migration of more processing logic to the clients, which reduced strain on the servers.
- The ability to develop for both Windows and Macintosh in a single development cycle; and
- The Flex development framework, which made it easy to turn desktop code into a browser-compatible environment for application such as adding nomee cards to Facebook.
nomee is previewing the open beta version of its desktop application in Booth 621 at Web 2.0. The beta software also is available free for download from www.nomee.com.

About nomee
nomee.com, inc., was launched in 2008 to develop software that addresses the challenges and dilemmas created when we participate in multiple online social networks. Not another site, nomee is software that organizes and monitors them all. The company's flagship application and namesake, nomee, offers users simplified control and customization over all of their information - not just who you follow, but what you share and with whom. nomee allows you to distribute different sites and levels of access to different audiences, so they always have the latest information about the "me" you want them to know. nomee is developing similar solutions for corporate and mobile users.
